Respite Services: Respite care is intended to help families. It is temporary relief care which can range from a few hours of care provided on a one-time basis to overnight or extended care sessions. Respite care is functional on either a regular or irregular basis. It can be provided by family members, friends, skilled care providers, or professionals. Providers are chosen by the family to care for the elderly or developmentally challenged individual while families take a class, go to a movie, go on vacation, or enjoy any activity. This allows the caregiver to receive necessary relief.
Whether supporting a person with developmental challenges or an elderly individual, caretakers are often influenced by stress and time management difficulties as a result of balancing the needs of that individual with the needs of other family members. Respite care is designed to provide breaks for these caregivers, allowing families time to tend to the needs of their children, spouses, and themselves.
